Most of us photography geeks have done some sort of multiple exposure or long exposure capture. We do this in order to create an image in tough lighting conditions or because of timing considerations. Photography has it’s origins in these techniques but I believe it has come about on behalf of a different motive.
Photographers have always been faced with a huge task. To get the hundreds of tones of no light (black) to all the light (white) that can be seen by the eye represented in a photo print that can only reproduce 5 of those tones. Technology and darkroom techniques have always provided the ability to push this limit beyond where we knew it to be but what digital cameras have offered makes a huge difference to me.
